What is Auto-Opt-in?
The first step in every person's text messaging journey is to receive an opt-in message. Your audience can be opted in manually, in bulk at the time you import a CSV file, or through the Auto-Opt-in Campaign. The Auto-Opt-in Campaign preference allows administrators to set an ideal time of day that you'd like your audience to receive the opt-in text message. In this article, we will review how to set up an auto-opt-in campaign, as well as best practices when using the auto-opt-in campaign engine.
Is Auto-Opt-in a Good Fit for Your Team?
- Auto-Opt-in campaigns are extremely helpful for teams who have an integration setup with Dialog Health that automatically sends us updates on your audience every day.
- Auto-Opt-in campaigns can be useful for teams who may work outside normal business hours, and want to make sure they don't initiate text messages at odd hours of the day.
- If you have an integration set up with Dialog Health that updates the platform in real time, then setting up your opt-in campaign to run on an hourly basis allows you to opt-in your audience almost instantly instead of only setting your auto-opt-in to run one time a day.
- If your team manually adds subscriber info to your console, and your normal workflow is to opt-in at time of import or at the time you create the person's profile, then auto-opt-in may not be necessary for your team's success.
Setup an Auto Opt-in Campaign for All Subscribers
1) Navigate to the Broadcasts tab, then, select the Campaign tab. Select Edit next to the Auto Opt-in Campaign.
2) During the initial set-up process when your team was onboarding with Dialog Health, your assigned implementation specialist may have already helped you turn on your Auto-Opt-in Campaign. If you have never used this functionality, the preference should be blank as shown below. If you have used this option before or would like to update the times/groups, you can continue to follow the next steps.
3) To set up the Auto-Opt-in Campaign, we have to define what time(s) you would like the campaign to send, and the opt-in group you would like new subscribers to be assigned to. To begin setup, select +Add Message to build a new auto-opt-in campaign.
Broadcast Name: Select a name for your team internally to help you remember what group this auto-opt-in campaign is associated to. In this example, we will be building an auto-opt-in campaign that will be sent to all members who are added to the Dialog Health console daily. (i.e., Main opt-in group)
Opt-in Group(s): When the auto-opt-in runs, select the opt-in group that you would like your subscribers to be added to. (i.e., Main opt-in group)
Audience Filters: Audience filters can be used to narrow down who you would like to include in auto-opt-in, and what group you would like them to be placed in if your team utilizes multiple opt-in groups. When: If you would like your Auto-Opt-in Campaign to run throughout the day, select a range of times. This will allow opt-ins to be sent every hour between the time range you select. In the example below, I want my campaign to go out every hour starting at 8:00 AM CDT, and ending by 4:00 PM CDT. This indicates that the system will look for new people to opt-in at 8AM, 9AM, 10AM, 11AM, and so on until 4PM.
4) Now that our preferences are set, we can turn on the Auto-Opt-in Campaign. Please note that the Auto-Opt-in Campaign will only capture people added to the platform after this preference has been turned on. After it is enabled, it will then continue to pick up new people added to the platform within the last 24 hours who have never been opted-in to your Dialog Health console. Select Add to Enable Auto-Opt-In Campaign. Your auto opt-in campaign is completely customizable. Your team can always come back in the future to make changes or disable them.

Auto Opt-In Campaign Tips & Best Practices
- If someone has been added to your Dialog Health console before this preference is enabled, and they have never been opted-in, they will not be picked up by the Auto-Opt-In Campaign.
- If someone has opted out of text messaging, they will not be opted back in with the Auto-Opt-in Campaign, they will have to be manually opted back in for messaging.
- This preference can only be changed/enabled by a user with Administrative access to the console.
- If your team prefers hourly auto-opt-ins, set the time to normal business hours to avoid opt-in messages being sent at odd hours of the day
- The message that is sent out for your Auto-Opt-in Campaign is your unique opt-in group message. If you have not configured an opt-in message to your group, the system will default to using your System Keyword Opt-in Message.
- If your Auto-Opt-in Campaign is turned on, and you need to change the time, make sure that you make the change 1 hour before when your campaign should be sent, or it may not go out until the next day.
How to Disable Auto-Opt-in Campaign
1) Navigate to the Broadcasts tab, then, select the Campaign tab. Select Edit next to the Auto Opt-in Campaign.
2) Next to your Auto Opt-in Campaign, select the X icon under the actions column to delete.
3) An alert should pop up asking if you are sure you'd like to disable this preference. Select Yes to proceed. f you disable this function, opt-ins will have to be completed manually, or at the time of import, they will no longer be sent automatically on a daily basis.
