Account Sharing With Co-workers: A Compliance Perspective

Account Sharing With Co-workers: A Compliance Perspective

Can my co-worker and I share a single Dialog Health account?

Dialog Health strongly advises against sharing login credentials for your Dialog Health account with anyone, whether they are inside or outside your organization. If you are currently sharing an account with a colleague or colleagues, we kindly request that you contact support@dialoghealth.com. Our team will assist you in ensuring that each individual requiring access to your console possesses their own distinct set of login credentials.

Please continue reading to gain a deeper understanding of why sharing accounts is in violation of the HIPAA Security Rule.

HIPAA and Security

At Dialog Health, we prioritize the adherence to HIPAA regulations and maintain a steadfast focus on security protocols. Nevertheless, it is crucial for all of us to play our part in remaining compliant and safeguarding electronic protected health information (ePHI). In order to adequately address the prohibition on sharing accounts, it is necessary to delve into the specifics of the HIPAA Security Rule.

The HIPAA Security Rule establishes a set of requirements pertaining to the administrative, physical, and technical safeguards that covered entities and business associates must implement to protect ePHI. Among these requirements is the implementation of unique user identification for each individual requiring access to ePHI. Considering that your Dialog Health console likely contains ePHI, it is imperative that each user possesses their own distinctive login credentials, which are tailored to their specific role and level of access within the console.

Sharing login credentials can result in a lack of accountability and render it difficult to track who accessed information, when such access occurred, and what actions were performed with the information. Consequently, this compromises the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of ePHI, thereby violating HIPAA regulations.

Once again, if you are presently sharing an account with a colleague or colleagues, we encourage you to reach out to support@dialoghealth.com to ensure that each individual obtains their own unique login. By adhering to this practice, you not only comply with HIPAA regulations, but also maintain the security of information within the Dialog Health platform.
